4 Tips for Healthy Lungs, Sports to Breathing Exercises
The lungs have a very vital function in providing oxygen throughout the body. However, this organ is quite prone to various health problems.
Lung function tends to decline with age. For example, the diaphragm muscle weakens, then the elasticity of the tissue in the lungs will also decrease.
If the lungs are disturbed, the breathing process will be hampered so that the supply of oxygen throughout the body becomes disrupted and causes various health problems.
Therefore, there are some tips that you can try to nourish your lungs, including the following:
1. Breathing exercises
The first way you can do is to practice breathing. You can take a deep breath through your nose, then exhale slowly through your mouth.
The efficacy of this breathing exercise has also been proven in a study published in the Indian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology. A total of 12 volunteers in the study did breathing exercises for 2, 5, and 10 minutes.
As a result, doing breathing exercises for a few minutes can improve lung function.
Here are the steps for breathing exercises.
Sit somewhere quiet and comfortable
Inhale slowly through your nose (count 1-2-3-4)
Then exhale slowly through your nose (count 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8).
2. Don't smoke
Smoking habits can cause various diseases in the lungs. Some of them are asthma, COPD, and lung cancer.
Every time you smoke, thousands of chemicals enter your lungs, including nicotine, carbon monoxide, and tar. These toxins can increase mucus and damage the tissue in the lungs, making it harder for you to breathe.
3. Exercising
In addition to avoiding smoking, exercising regularly is also very important for lung health. When you exercise, your lungs work hard to supply oxygen throughout your body, while expelling carbon dioxide from your body.
That way, the lungs will become stronger and healthier. Although you will eventually develop lung disease, exercise can help slow the disease from progressing.
4. Avoid air pollution
Just like cigarette smoke, exposure to air pollution can also damage the lungs. You can take some of these steps to avoid exposure to air pollution, both indoors and outdoors.
Make your home a smoke-free zone zona
Clean the furniture at least once a week
Open the windows often so that the air circulation in the house is maintained
Avoid exercising near heavy traffic
Use a mask when working outside the home.
Do some of the tips above so that your lung health is maintained properly. If you have other ways to nourish your lungs
