TikTok is currently being the prima donna for teenagers around the world. Not surprisingly, this one application is considered to be a place for creativity for its users. However, on the other hand, many viral challenge trends are actually dangerous.
It was recently reported that a 13-year-old boy had to be rushed to the ICU with severe burns after imitating one of the viral trends on TikTok that required candles, lighters and alcohol. Unfortunately while attempting the challenge, the alcohol exploded and burned his body.
Another, a girl from Florida, United States, attempted a viral challenge on TikTok that ended up causing her to have a heart attack. How come?
Quoted from the Mirror UK page, Briatney Portillo, did the 'dry scooping' challenge, which is to eat a spoonful of dry protein powder before exercising. This protein powder contains performance-enhancing ingredients, such as caffeine, amino acids, creatine, B vitamins and beta-alanine.
Protein powder should be consumed by dissolving in water, because the ingredients can be dangerous if consumed in large quantities.
Meanwhile, Briatney, who is not used to consuming so much caffeine, had a heart attack shortly after undertaking the challenge.
"I'm the type of person who is curious to try anything, like the TikTok challenge. But, I ask you not to repeat my mistakes," said Briatney.
The 20-year-old girl also shared the symptoms she experienced, namely chest pain, nausea, and fatigue. But he continued to exercise until his left arm went numb.
Sensing something was wrong, he went straight to the hospital and had to undergo intensive care afterwards.
"So, think again about doing this challenge, especially if you are not used to consuming caffeine regularly. You may end up having the same fate as me in the hospital," he concluded.
